What to Know

About Heel Pain

Causes

Plantar Fasciitis: The most common cause of heel pain, plantar fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia (a thick band of tissue connecting your heel to your toes) becomes inflamed or overstretched.

Heel Spurs: A heel spur is a bony growth on the underside of the heel, often caused by prolonged strain on the foot muscles and ligaments.

Achilles Tendinitis: Inflammation of the Achilles tendon can lead to pain at the back of the heel, usually from overuse or repetitive stress.

Bursitis: Inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs (bursae) around the heel can result in discomfort, especially with pressure or movement.

Stress Fractures: Tiny cracks in the heel bone caused by overuse or repetitive impact are common in athletes or active individuals.

Other Causes
Conditions such as arthritis, nerve compression, or improperly fitting footwear can also lead to heel pain.
Symptoms
  • Sharp, stabbing pain in the heel (especially in the morning or after rest).

  • Tenderness or swelling around the heel.

  • Pain that worsens after prolonged activity or standing.

  • Difficulty walking or bearing weight on the affected foot.
Treatment Options

We provide comprehensive treatment options tailored to your specific needs. These include:

Non-Surgical Treatments

Rest and Ice Therapy: Reducing activity and applying ice can relieve pain and inflammation.

Orthotic Inserts: Custom orthotics can provide arch support and reduce strain on the heel.

Stretching and Physical Therapy: Exercises to improve flexibility and strengthen the foot muscles.

Medication: Anti-inflammatory medications to reduce pain and swelling.

Night Splints: Wearing a splint at night can help stretch the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon.

Advanced Options

Shockwave Therapy: A non-invasive treatment that stimulates healing in the affected area.

Corticosteroid Injections: For severe inflammation, targeted injections can provide relief.

Surgical Solutions
In rare cases, surgery may be necessary to address chronic heel pain that does not respond to other treatments.
